Numerical simulation of a fire resistance test and prediction of the flue gas leakage using CFD/FEM coupling

Purpose In fire resistance tests (FRTs) of building materials, a crucial criterion to pass the test procedure is avoid leakage hot flue gases caused by gaps and cracks occurring due thermal exposure. The present study's aim calculate deformation steel door, which embedded within wall made bricks, qualitatively determine gas leakage. Design/methodology/approach A computational fluid dynamics/finite element method (CFD/FEM) coupling was introduced representing an intermediate approach between one-way full two-way methodology, leading simplified (STWC). contrast two way-coupling, heat transfer through door simulated based on approach. Subsequently, predicted temperatures at from simulation were used in following CFD/FEM simulation, where flow inside outside furnace as well calculated simultaneously.
